KINFRA Industrial Park, Thalaserry
The Thalasserry park has units which has made raw materials such as rubber wood a viable proposition.
Thalassery has been known for its proud history of cricket, circus and cuisine. The first two have lost their sheen but the cuisine has now almost become a legend. Now, one can add a thriving industrial sector to the northern Kerala town, thanks to the KINFRA Small scale park.
The Rubco factory at the Park has given a new lease of life to rubber wood, which was till found use only as firewood. Today, treated rubber wood is being made into furniture. “We have bought technology from outside to reinforce the rubber wood,” says Rubco general manager Balakrishnan. “Today Rubco furniture is sought after in the market as they can more than match furniture made of hard wood.”
The company now employs close to 300 people from around the area. “Most of our workers come from vary ordinary families, who would have never shared the fruits of growth but for our factory.”
The dyeing and weaving unit is another major unit at the park. “This is the only unit which can dye and weave all the natural fibers such as wool, cotton, jute etc,” says Anand Kumar, plant manager. More than 50 employees work with the company.
Move over to Parco, the only company in south India capable of making an entire suit of kitchen and bakery equipment. The company says it is making use of the latest technology to make the most of the booming food processing industry. The company, which combines know-how from electrical, mechanical and electronic streams, makes a minimum 100 per cent value addition to the raw material, thereby benefiting the local economy.
