Kinfra Defence Park, Ottapalam, Palakkad.
Defence has been identified as one of the sectors under “Make in India” initiative of Govt. of India for providing a major thrust to in-house manufacturing of equipment’s to meet most of the varied requirements of defence. One of the most important initiative of the Kerala State towards defence manufacturing is the upcoming KINFRA Defence Park at Ottapalam, Palakkad.
The proposed Greenfield project envisages providing complete eco-friendly infrastructure facility for the establishment of KINFRA Defence Park. The project is intended to create a Defence Park with all modern facilities exclusively for Defence equipment manufacturers with Assistance from Government of India under ‘Modified Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation (MIIU)’ Scheme. This scheme is implemented by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Govt. of India.KINFRA is in possession of 60 acres of land which is earmarked for KINFRA Defense Park which has easy access to road ways, railways, airport and sea port.
The aim of Defence Park is to establish a cluster of Industrial Units which can utilize shared infrastructure facilities of the Defence Park. Govt. of India in its Apex Committee meeting held on 28.01.2016 has granted final approval for the said project. Total Project cost including land is Rs.191 Crores. Out of this, Rs.50 Crores is grant under MIIU Scheme of Government of India. Balance investment of Rs.141 Crores will be by Government of Kerala (KINFRA).
CONNECTIVITY OF THE SITE
Ottapalam is well connected to many major cities in Kerala by road and rail. The land has easy access to roadways (excellent state highways), railway (Lakkidi and Palakkad stations), airport (Kochi and Coimbatore), and seaport (Kochi).
Rail: Ottapalam has a major railway station in the Southern Railway network, and most major passenger and express trains stop here. It is a major station between Palakkad and Shoranur in the Chennai route and Wadakkanchery in the Kanyakumari/Alappuzha route. There are train services to major cities of Kerala and the rest of India, particularly South India.
Road: The Palakkad-Shoranur (Kulappully) state highway passes through the town. Government buses and private bus services operate between Ottapalam and other major towns such as Thrissur, Palakkad, Mannarkkad, Pattambi, Guruvayoor, and Chelakkara (through the Ottapalam-Mayanur bridge inaugurated on 22 January 2011).
Airport: The nearest airports are the Calicut International Airport, the Cochin International Airport, and the Coimbatore Airport

FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN THE PARK
KINFRA proposes to develop shared infrastructure facilities in the proposed Defence Park which includes dedicated power, continuous water supply, communication facilities, offering plug and play arrangement for easy start-up of Industrial units at minimum cost and time.Land lease will be for an initial period of 30 year and subsequently extended in multiplies of 30 year.Lease of Building space will be for an initial period of 10 year and subsequently extended in multiplies of 10 year.
