Defence has been identified as one of the sectors under “Make in India” initiative of Govt. of India for providing a major thrust to the in-house manufacturing of equipment’s to meet most of the varied requirements of defence. One of the most important initiatives of the Kerala State towards defence manufacturing is the upcoming KINFRA Defence Park at Ottapalam, Palakkad.

The project is intended to create a Defence Park with all modern facilities exclusively for Defence equipment manufacturers with Assistance from Government of India under ‘Modified Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation (MIIU)’ Scheme. This scheme is implemented by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Govt. of India. KINFRA is in possession of 60 acres of land which is earmarked for KINFRA Defence Park which has easy access to roadways, railways, airport and seaport. The Total Project cost including land is Rs.130.84 Crore. Out of this, Rs.50 Crore is grant under MIIU Scheme of Government of India. Total Project cost Rs 80.84crores will be by the Government of Kerala (KINFRA).
